Sick Day Blues
I’ve come down with a serious case of the common cold, and have spent the past 48 hours staring blankly at my computer screen in between naps as I try to stay on top of work. I always hate getting ill and having to slow down, especially in December, but at least I’m – hopefully – getting it out of the way before Christmas.
Anyway, I thought I’d share with you briefly the things that are keeping me alive as I struggle through my sick days…
Crosse & Blackwell Soup
Regular readers will be well aware that I love to cook, but when I’m ill and there’s none of my homemade leek and potato soup left in the freezer, even I turn to canned soup. And it still has to be tasty and delicious, because even in a sickly state, I’m still a total food snob. My new favourite brand is Crosse & Blackwell. I’ve been on the chicken and the ham and pea soups today. You’ll find their yummy soups in all the major supermarkets. Find out more about the brand through their website here.
American TV series Nashville
In place of a social life, this is the second evening I’ve spent in Nashville, indulging myself in the characters of the American country music world. It’s got that chick from Heroes in it, and apparently her character’s based on Taylor Swift. It’s certainly kept me on the edge of my sickbed seat. It’s the perfect trashy sick day series, particularly for somebody who doesn’t have a TV and therefore doesn’t have access to Jeremy Kyle and all that stuff I hear the cool kids watch. Find out more about Nashville here.
Finally, my new best friend is my bad-boy electric blanket. Stick it under your bedsheets and turn it on for an all round comfortable warmth that a hot water bottle just couldn’t bring you. There’s nothing like getting into bed and having your whole body snuggled by heat, especially with the ridiculously cold weather we’re having. Mine’s from Amazon.co.uk and it was a very welcome Christmas present last year. You can get yourself one here.
