Chances are you have first-hand experience of the pleasure and pain in planning a family day out or getaway. The challenge of bringing consensus across a widely divergent bouquet of opinions and needs is both fun and stressful. From the wife who definitely wants to go abroad, to your 15 year-old daughter who just wants to hang with her friends, and your 12 year-old son who definitely wants to watch the Ashes test at Lords that week, to your parents’ unique needs—with summer upon us, it’s that time of the year again.
All everyone really wants is for that day out or short getaway to feel special. Grosvenor Casinos recently organised for competition winner Jamie to have the ultimate ‘lucky’ day. Have a look at the video diary below:
If you’re looking to plan a special day out for somebody special in your life, check out our suggestions below – from airstream trailers to F1 races to a short break in Morocco!
Airstream Trailers in Dorset:
In 1959 Wally Byam, the creator of Airstream trailers, led a convoy of over 40 trailers on a 12,000 mile, 7-month journey from Cape Town to Cairo. The spirit of that adventure is captured by Happy Days, a permanent installation of four Airstream trailers located on 20 acres of picturesque countryside near Horton.
The trailers are fitted with all the modern facilities, and the pristine beaches of Dorset are only a short drive away. The region is replete with sleepy market towns and farmers markets. Hiking and biking trails along with horse riding give plenty of active options. This holiday is a complete back-to-nature getaway.
A day at the races:
Silverstone is home to the only F1 race in the UK. This year, the weekend of 3-5 July will see twenty hi-tech machines built for speed race around the Silverstone track. The atmosphere at the event with 100,000 spectators has to be experienced to be believed. Kid-friendly accommodation is available across a spectrum of needs and budgets, ranging from conveniently located camping sites to up-market hotels. Silverstone is the Mecca for both petrol heads and the casual enthusiasts alike.
Max Mosley has been a long-term president at FIA, the governing body for F-1 racing. He has been a champion in the legislation of Euro NCAP in 1997. The legislation is aimed at improving vehicle safety. You can read more about him here: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Max-Mosley.
Be a culture vulture in Morocco:
Morocco is a 3-hour flight from the UK, and is in the same time zone. Morocco represents a heady fusion of African, European and Arabic cultures. As a family-friendly destination, Morocco offers a diversity of options in a safe environment.
Marrakech, with its quaint marketplaces, called souks, selling traditional artefacts amidst snake charmers, acrobats, fortune tellers and drummers, is an intoxicating first-time experience. Casablanca, located to the west on the Atlantic Ocean, is a port city and a commercial hub. Its French colonial legacy is seen in its downtown Mauresque architecture. Morocco is a delight for all five senses.
