Hotel Review: Lyzzick Hall, Keswick
It’s my first time in the Lake District, despite having lived in England for most of my life, and this picturesque setting soon becomes a favourite during my trip here. The twisting roads reveal rolling hills dabbled with little slate and yorkstone cottages at every corner. I stop the car anywhere possible to take in the incredible panoramic views across the countryside.
When I arrive at Lyzzick Hall, I’m greeted by the sound of children playing and happy voices taking afternoon tea in the gardens. From the beginning, the staff here are friendly and efficient, and I can already tell this is going to be a relaxing break.
The hotel is a lavishly-decorated Victorian country house, brimming with fresh flowers and a family atmosphere. The property boasts an indoor pool, a sauna and a jacuzzi, as well as its own Orangery, landscaped gardens and lovely views across the hills.
Lyzzick also boasts a restaurant offering traditional and modern British cuisine, with all ingredients being locally sourced. Seafood, venison, Cumbrian beef and lamb are all on the menu, and it’s impossible not to clean your plate. This is food at its very best.
Service across the hotel, and especially in the restaurant, is efficient and friendly, with staff giving a personal touch that matches the quiet but caring atmosphere of the place as a whole.
Plush decor, an oversized bed and a writing nook; the room is luxurious. Each of Lyzzick Hall’s rooms are named after the hillside views from their windows. The peace and the tranquility of the area is well-reflected in the ambiance of the venue.
Things to do in the area:
Keswick is a pretty little town with a quaint clock tower, antique shops, bookshops and coffeeshops, as well as al freso dining options for the warmer weather. It’s also well-stocked with outdoor clothing and footwear specialists, catering for the many walkers and hikers who frequent the area throughout the year.
Ambleside offers the chance to take ferry tours out to other destinations like Bowness which has many attractions, including a steam boat museum and the World of Beatrix Potter experience—where all of her tales are brought to life in a wonderful indoor exhibition.
Rooms at Lyzzick Hall start at £74.00 per person including full English breakfast. Visit their website here.
